Tell them you'll do it for more money or with less notice if you want to leave early. If they say no, then oh, well. If they say yes, then you get another thing to put on your resume and either money or flexibility.

well, I've already gotten them to almost double the amount of money they wanted to offer in the first place. They don't seem to want to go much higher than that (been going back and forth with them for a couple days now). I think I can convince them to let me go with 2 weeks warning instead of four, but still given the low number of hours, I'm not feeling very confident about things. Especially since, I could end up working 20 hours and after taxes and social security, making less than I make on UC. My gut is telling me to pass on it... on the other hand... you know... its work...

I say do it provided they let you only give 2 weeks notice and then try to get some random schlep job on the side. My coworker worked at petsmart for 2 months while she waited to hear back about professional jobs she was applying for. There's no shame in honest work, and it won't hurt your hireability, really. Plus, you'd get some extra money.
