Maverick Magazine Exclusive: The 25 Hottest Men Alive - 2006 Edition

And the winner is
you'll have to read to find out
So a couple weeks ago I decided to do my own world's sexiest women poll. The turnout was pretty good. Then the womens revolted and tore my clothes off and spanked me until I agreed to do one fo guys as well. Actually, I kinda liked the whole spanking thing, but I'm a nice guy so I figured, what the hell. This one's for the ladies!

The poll actually did better than I had expected. I had anticipated 20 ballots or so and we ended up with 36 with 317 votes for a total of 1831 points. Not as successful as the sexy women contest, but pretty good. 216 men received votes (coincidentally, the same as the number of women)

And now the results:

Sorry, I know how much jameel was counting on seeing his picture here, but I just don't have the energy to stay up all night cutting pictures for men 11-25. So only the top 10 are getting photos. Also, I'm stopping ranking at 25 anyway, since any sense of statistical relevance is lost well before then anyway.

So there you go. And now a little bit of analysis. I didn't want to do the guy poll originally because I was of the opinion it would be pointless. Two reasons, I didn't think we'd get enough votes to make it interesting (I had hoped for 50 votes in the women's poll and did a little better, and although I did better than I was hoping in the guy poll, I still didn't come near that number). The other reason was consistency. It was my theory that women have a greater range of men that they are attracted to than men have for women. That is not to say that all men like the same women or that no women have similar tastes. Just that amongst women in general there are more types, so it's harder to pick definitive winners.

This weekend, beststephi and I did a little statistical analysis over the votes. In the girl poll, it appears that a person needs 5 votes and 18 points to rise above the level of statistical noise. That puts 20 of the top 25 on that level. (Everyone but my mom, Monica Bellucci, Charlize Theron, Kari Byron and Kate Winslet). With fewer votes for boys, you needed 4 votes and 14 points to make it above that level. 13 of the top 25. Everyone with a "*" next to their name didn't make that cut. Half of the top 25. In fact, even though the boy poll only had 2/3 the votes of the girl poll, there were just as many nominees. A man could get into the top 25 by simply having two good votes. 2 good votes and a mediocre one can get you into the top 10. In fact, on the boy poll, if I had lumped all of the votes for "myself" or "my boyfriend" into one category instead of spreading them out amongst the individuals, that person would have won in a landslide.

So while I think its interesting to take a poll of sexy women and compare it to the polls conducted by magazines, I think the poll of sexy men is obviously flawed (and this is why fewer magazines do it in the first place). That said, I think if I ask the questions "what do you find sexy in a man?" and "what do you find sexy in a woman?" The answers to the first question are going to on the whole be far more interesting. So why don't I ask that? Let me know what you think on those two questions. And for that matter, let me know what you think of the results of this poll. And my little analysis. Do you think its worth running one or both of these polls again next year? I sort of want to do that and see how tastes with the pop culture community change over the course of the year.
